International Service Dog Week

Did you know that the 5th – 11th August is International Service Dog Week?

Service dogs play a vital role supporting people with disabilities, helping them access the community and live the life that they deserve.

It’s great to see more and more service dogs working on the Coffs Coast, but there is still so much misinformation about what they are and what they do.

So, ProActive Dogs Australia is holding an information stall where you will be able to meet some of our service dogs and where our qualified trainers will be able to answer all your questions about service dogs.

We would love to see you all there πŸ™‚

Stud dog to Service dog

Meet Skipper. This gorgeous boy comes from one of our lovely local breeders, who has supplied many wonderful puppies to us in the past. Skipper has spent the last two years being a stud and show dog but now he is trying out a new profession.

Skipper will train alongside our other young dogs and work towards becoming a someone’s lifetime companion. Good luck Skipper πŸ™‚

Battling Bandits

Over the weekend, Arlert and his owner Kiri, went on a very exciting adventure with the LARP group of Coffs Harbour.

The little service dog accompanied Kiri up to the camping grounds at Ebor for the three day event. Arlert fought alongside the group as they battled bandits, spirits and banshees.

Kiri would have never had the courage to attend an Β event like this without the support of her service dog. Everyone had a great time, new friendships were formed and bandits were slain. Both Kiri and Arlert are looking forward to the next event.

Huge thanks to the Elders at LARPcraft Coffs Harbour for accommodating Arlert and for making the weekend possible.

Puppy Play Day

A week ago, ProActive Dogs Australia hosted our very first Puppy Play Day at Coffs Cavanbah Centre.

We had 30 – 40 people attend the event over the four hours. It was a huge day for everyone! We met a lot of new people, caught up with some old friends, and everyone went away knowing a little bit more about service dogs.

The dogs that attended were Bonnie, Chewie, Arlert, and Fynn. They were pooped by the end of the day πŸ™‚

Big thanks to everyone who helped us pull off this event, and of course to all the people who came along to make it such a great day.

The Big Beach Day

We would like to say a huge thanks to Coffs Coast Surf Tours for yesterday’s Big Beach Day Tour. Not only did they provide a great service, with lots of fun activities and a delicious lunch, they were more than willing to accommodate ProActive Dog Ozzie-Bear on their tour.

Little Ozzie-Bear, who is training to become a Psychiatric Service Dog, was able to accompany his owner all day which made things much easier, and more fun for everyone. Ozzie-Bear loves the water but was not too fond of the stand-up paddle boards, however he sat with his mum and paddled up and down Coffs Creek all afternoon.

Again, thanks Coffs Coast Surf Tours for a great day!
